Short German version (3:03 min)
On June 4, 2024, 22 Stolpersteine (stumbling stones) were laid in Solingen. Twenty-five descendants and their relatives traveled from Great Britain, the USA, Israel, Switzerland, and Germany to attend. On the eve of the Stolperstein laying ceremony, the documentary film „Johanna Seligmann Coppel – A Life for the Family“ by Andrea Rey-Suter and Helmut Wimmer premiered at the „Das Lumen“ cinema. The accompanying program for the Stolperstein laying was made possible by a grant from the Gerd Kaimer Citizens‘ Foundation and organized in cooperation with the Solingen City Archives.
We thank the descendants of the Coppel, Berkenau, Wallach, and Zürndorfer families for their attendance. We also thank the Stolperstein sponsors, the teachers and students of the project groups from the Geschwister-Scholl-Schule and the Alexander-Coppel-Gesamtschule, and everyone else who contributed to two days full of remembrance and encounters. The film music is a piece of Kate Shortt, the great granddaughter of Rosa Zürndorfer, which she wrote as a reaction on October 7, 2023.
